Cards Accepted as Payment on Amazon.com

Which cards can you use on Amazon.com? We accept the following cards as payment for your orders:

  • Visa (including the Amazon.com Visa Card)
  • MasterCard/EuroCard
  • Discover Network
  • American Express
  • Diner's Club (U.S. billing addresses only)
  • JCB
  • NYCE
  • Visa, MasterCard, or American Express pre-paid credit or gift cards
  • Amazon Store Card

You can use debit, pre-paid, and gift cards issued by the companies above as well as their standard credit cards. Similarly, if you're paying with a EuroCard or MasterMoney Card, select MasterCard. For credit cards denominated in a supported currency other than U.S. dollars (USD), your bank or credit card company may charge foreign conversion fees.

Unless you use Amazon.com Gift Cards and one of the payment methods above, you'll need to choose a single payment method to place your order on Amazon.com. You can't split your payment between multiple cards. This includes the Amazon Store Card and gift/pre-paid cards issued by the companies above.

You can combine Amazon.com Gift Cards with a credit or debit card payment to complete your order. If you're interested in buying an Amazon.com Gift Card to split the payment on your merchandise order, please see our Amazon.com Gift Cards Frequently Asked Questions here:

Using a Corporate Purchasing Card

Amazon.com accepts purchasing cards as payment. These cards are typically used by corporations and institutions to better track purchases. Please visit the Purchasing Cards Help page for more information.

Pre-paid/Gift Card Payment Restrictions

If you are using a Visa, MasterCard, or American Express pre-paid credit/gift card, please note the following restrictions:

  • Pre-paid gift cards can't be combined with credit cards on a single order.
  • Pre-paid gift cards can't be used to sign up for Amazon Prime membership.
  • Some banks may require you to register pre-paid gift cards with your name and billing address by calling the number on the back of the card.
  • Amazon.com does not support entering the three-digit CVV code normally found on the back of some cards. If entering the code is required by the issuing bank, your payment may not process successfully.
  • We will process a $1 authorization at the time of order to make sure the payment method is valid. This authorization is not a charge, but your bank may hold the authorized funds as unavailable until the authorization expires.

PIN-less Debit Transactions on Amazon.com

When paying by debit card, we may process your payment as a PIN-less debit transaction. Although your transaction will be processed like a PIN-debit transaction, you won't have to enter your Personal Identification Number (PIN) when using your debit card. When proceeding through checkout, you'll simply need to select the option to pay with an existing debit card or enter a new debit card on the payments selection page. If the debit card is eligible to be processed as a PIN-less debit transaction, we'll do the rest.

Your financial institution may charge you a fee for payments we process as a PIN-less debit transaction. If you have any questions regarding the terms and conditions of your debit card, contact your financial institution using the telephone number found on the back of your card.

If your debit card is eligible to be processed as a PIN-less debit transaction, but you prefer to disable this feature, please see Opting Out of PIN-less Debit. You may disable the PIN-less debit transaction feature when you add the eligible debit card to your account or at any time afterwards.

Once your order is prepared for shipment, we will send a request to your bank to charge your account. Since your financial institution knows what your available financial account balance is at the time of each PIN-less debit transaction, they may decline a transaction if you have an insufficient balance available to complete your purchase.

If you typically receive rewards when making purchases using your debit card, please review your financial institution's policy on rewards issuance to determine whether you receive rewards for PIN-less debit transactions. If you have questions about earning rewards, contact your bank using the telephone number found on the back of your card.

Please note that you may see the Visa or MasterCard logo next to your card number to help identify the card you have selected as a payment method. The fact that we display that logo does not mean that your debit card transaction will be processed by Visa or MasterCard.

Opting Out of PIN-less Debit

If you do not want your transactions processed as PIN-less debits, just visit Your Account and follow these steps:

  1. Select "Manage Payment Options" under Payment Methods
  2. Click the Edit button for the Payment Method that you would like to change.
  3. Uncheck the box that is next to "Processed as a debit card".
  4. Select the Confirm button at the bottom of the page.
